"A study by the California Air Resources Board (ARB) has concluded that indoor concentrations of formaldehyde in recently built homes often exceed health-based exposure guidelines for indoor air contaminants, due to the many indoor sources of formaldehyde.
In addition, indoor concentrations of a few other chemicals such as benzene, naphthalene, and 1,4-dichlorobenzene also exceeded exposure guidelines in some cases.
The researchers recommanded that new homes should have mechanical outdoor air ventilation systems for the purpose of controling indoor air contaminants.
In other California IAQ news, the ARB approved all of the proposed amendments to the Air Cleaner Regulation on December 9, 2009 in Sacramento. Air cleaners will still have to be tested and certified by October 18, 2010. However, the package labeling requirements will not have to be met for an additional year, and adhesive labels (rather than printing on the package) will be allowed for two years..."
